SNAKE IN THE DRAIN

Titanoboa, meaning ;titanic boa; is a genus of snake that lived approximately 58–60 million years ago, during the Paleocene epoch a 10-million-year period immediately following the dinosaur extinction event.  The only known species is the Titanoboa Cerrejonensis, the largest snake ever discovered.

Here are some photos from the exhibit placed in New York City.  I haven’t had a chance to catch the special on Smithsonian Channel.  I’m looking forward to learning some more about this prehistoric nightmare.

I am beyond excited to see this film. From what I am hearing, this film is going to change the horror genre completely. I frequent horror movie sites Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting, even both of these sites are on the same page. On April 13th, I will have my ticket, eagerly awaiting this experience. I haven’t had these high anticipation feeling for a film in years. I really hope the hype holds true.

This is pretty bizarre, and something nightmares are made of. I also posted a clip in below this post.  Nature can be crazy!

Thousands of normally solitary wolf spiders have blanketed an Australian farm after fleeing a rising flood.

Reuters reports that the flooding has forced more than 8,000 Australian (human) residents from their homes in the city of Wagga Wagga in New South Wales. But for every temporarily displaced person, it appears several spiders have moved in to fill the void.

-From Yahoo! News

"What we’ve seen here is a type of wolf spider," Owen Seeman, an arachnid expert at Queensland Museum, told Reuters. "They are trying to hide away (from the waters)."

The Australian Museum’s entomology collections manager Graham Milledge told Reuters that there’s even a term for the phenomenon, “ballooning,” and that it is typical behavior for spiders forced to escape rising waters.

You can watch a video here of researchers on the hunt for ballooning spiders from the safety of a hot air balloon.

Thankfully for local residents, the occupying arachnids are not likely to set up permanent residence, a la the 1977 William Shatner clunker “Kingdom of the Spiders.” Weather reports say the flood waters in Wagga Wagga have begun receding, meaning that locals will soon be returning to their homes and the wolf spiders will also be returning to their natural underground habitats.

And it turns out the spiders are actually doing quite a bit of good while setting up shop above ground. The spiders are feasting on mosquitoes and other insect populations that have boomed with the increased moisture brought about by the rising waters.

"The amount of mosquitoes around would be incredible because of all this water," Taronga Zoo spider keeper Brett Finlayson told the Sydney Morning Herald. "The spiders don’t pose any harm at all. They are doing us a favor. They are actually helping us out."

As amazing as this display may be, it’s not the first time photographers have captured massive displaced spider migrations. One of the most famous pictures of 2011, above, showed millions of spiders and other insects in Pakistan that had formed massive web clusters in trees to escape rising floodwaters.

What Happened to Your Face?
With what could be an Oscar nominated Zombie movie out this December; of course I am talking about Brad Pitt in World War Z.  World War Z is a fascinating novel written by Max Brooks.  If you have yet had the opportunity to read it, I highly suggest you do.  With that being said, we should all prepare ourselves for the Zombie Apocalypse.  The best way to do that you ask; well the best way is a Hammer 2x4’s over the doors and windows lock-in zombie movie marathon.  Pick up tips, learn from others mistakes.  Get yourself prepared for all types of environments and situations.

Heading to the beer expo today.  Looks like a great time. Hopefully I will find something new and tasty. I am going to the first session that runs from 12:30-4.  Two of the people that are going are beer snob hipsters.  Hopefully they can keep their critics down to a minimum.
Speaking of hipsters, I heard a wonderful joke this week.
Question: How many hipsters does it take to change a lightbulb?
Answer: Its not so much about change as it is the redistribution of light.
