Animal of the Day: Coconut Crab

The coconut crab is a species of terrestrial hermit crab, also known as the robber crab or palm thief.  The estimated lifespan is over 60 years.  With a body length of up 16 inches, a weight of up to 9 pounds, and a leg span of more than 3 feet, with males generally being larger than females, these are the largest land-living arthropod in the world.  The diet of coconut crabs consists primarily of fruits.
